I took some photos of myself in horror makeup. The first 2 were taken in plain bright lighting.
The next 2 were taken with the light turned off in a dark room but I used an LED torch to light my face at different angles. This created different shadows which emphasised the creepiness of my face.
The next 3 were taken with the light on and the use of the torch. I also positioned my face in different ways to play with different expressions that may be seen in horror films such as the Exorcist.
The use of the torch in this photo created dark shadows underneath my eyes which I really like the look of. It gives the appearance of a 'drained' look on my face which works quite well.
The use of the torch didn't work as successfully as the previous 2 but I have changed the composition of my self and the vantage point between me and the camera. Having the camera on a tripod and not being able to see what was in the frame of the camera caused part of my face to be cut out. When I use a tripod to take pictures of myself I am going to put a mirror behind it so I can see the screen of the camera and make sure the picture is going to be taken how I want it to be taken.
In this one I tried a composition/pose seen in exorcism films like Exorcism of Emily Rose. I like the use of poses that are out of the ordinary as it heightens the intensity of the horror theme. I wore an old fashioned nighty as worn by most exorcism characters; Regan (The Exorcist), Emily (Exorcism of Emily Rose), Nell (The Last Exorcism).
