Inspirational person
One of the people who has been a big influence in my life was my old art teacher for years 12 and 13. Mrs Palmer.
I never knew how much one person could help me thrive in something. She made me the artist I am today.
Coming from no art background whatsoever and stepping into year 12 art was tough. But thankfully, Mrs Palmer was there every step of the way. She saw potential in me and she wanted to bring out the best in me - my best work.
She taught me everything I know. How to produce an amazing drawing. How to produce an incredible painting. How to take an excellent picture and re-produce something wonderful in photoshop.
Mrs Palmer pushed me and pushed me until I was creating all my artwork to my full potential. I still remember her saying "That's good Amanda, but you can still improve."
Going from half-finished looking drawings - to works of art.
I was encouraged to work very hard in all aspects of my artwork, and by the end of year 12 I was second best artist in my year.
I worked even harder in year 13, Mrs Palmer supporting me the whole time. Giving me tips and advice when I needed it. Showing me new techniques of painting. Showing me new ways to use a camera and photoshop. Showing me things that would help me to use my talent to the best of my abilities. By the end of year 13 I was top in art and photography for my year. In a class full of artists who'd been doing art from an early age - there's me, as proud as ever. My final painting sold for $150.
I think back to when my mum went to see Mrs Palmer for a parent teacher interview. She came home very happy and she said "Mrs Palmer told me how well you're doing. I'm very proud of you, keep up the good work!"
Mrs Palmer, the proud art teacher and mentor - happy as can be with me and my work.
One of the most inspirational and encouraging people to cross my path. She has made me the artist I am today.
